Christmas Decor For The Fireplace

What do you do when you’re living in a remodel and your fireplace isn’t really Christmas-ready??
Well, if you’re me…
You decorate it anyway!
Like I’ve always said living in a remodel is not for sissies!
And having a house that’s under construction this time of year sure makes things interesting when it comes to Christmas decorating!
This is what our fireplace wall used to look like
Since we got all that lava rock down, we’re left with the brick ‘guts’ of the fireplace until we can get the new stone and mantel put up
We will be building a hearth on the floor in front so we didn’t bring the oak flooring all the way to the brick in a few places
But actually, until we get it done — I don’t mind the bricks so much!
It’s really rustic, messy and deconstructed but I like it so much better than all that black rock
So here’s what I did to make it feel like Christmas in here
And I only used items I already had or things I found outside in the yard!

The first thing I did was take the doors off of my armoire and lean them up against the sides to give the fireplace more width and to hide some of the framing lumber (and I’m loving the armoire without the doors right now — I’ll show you that next time!) Then I placed a vintage box over the holes in the floor

Next I added some candles in the firebox and some greenery in urns on either side
Then it was time for the finishing touches…
Cable knit stockings
I made this wreath from Eucalyptus twigs I found in my neighborhood on my morning walks. I just wired them to a ring from a rusty old tomato cage
A twig wreath
I just cut some juniper branches and stuck them in these urns to make the little ‘trees’
And lights

Bella loves it!
Who says you can’t decorate for Christmas in the middle of a whole-house renovation??
Not me…
Stay tuned…
Next time I’ll show you the rest of the room!
