Tiny Bathroom Storage Ideas

Just so there’s no confusion - this post is about a Tiny Bathroom. Not a Tiny Idea. Or Tiny Storage.

Well maybe the storage is tiny. It definitely isn’t huge…

But I think the idea is huge!

This bathroom is 23 square feet. Not including the 3’ x 3’ shower.

That’s T I N Y.

When the house was built, they made a broom closet (accessed from the other side of this wall) that protruded into this bathroomroom 12 inches by 18 inches. It ate up a lot of valuable space from floor to ceiling and made the room feel even smaller than it was.

Unfortunately, I can’t show you because we tore that thing out before I could snap a photo of it.

But here’s the space once it was gone and we had patched the hole.

You can see it created a little alcove about 2 inches deep in the wall.

Since the bathroom is so small, the largest vanity we can use is 24 inches. So we really need to maximize storage and counter space somewhere else in the room.

So here’s what we came up with:

We obviously didn’t want this to take up a lot of space so we used a ready-to-assemble upper kitchen cabinet. Typically, upper kitchen cabinets are only 12 inches deep.

When we first tried it in the alcove, it came out about 10 inches from the wall. That was still too much. So Mr. Redoux took 4 inches off of the back of it. He’s such a good sport…

The inside is 7 inches deep which is deeper than a lot of wall-hung bathroom cabinets. And it easily holds rolls of TP, facial tissue and other items that need to be stored in the bathroom.

Because it was an upper cabinet, we had to make a base for it. Easily done.

We made a top for it which gives some extra counter space in the room.

Then we went all the way to the ceiling with open shelves.

We used molding all around to build it in. And painted it the same color as our doors and trim.

Of course another option would have been to install a ready-made cabinet that hangs on the wall over the commode.

But this gives the room way more storage.

And I like the way the room feels more open without anything on the wall above the toilet.

And this side of the room needed something to balance out everything on the other side of the room.

And besides, what would Mr. Redoux do with all that spare time on his hands?
